How to Apply Dark Eye Makeup
Dark eye makeup is a great way to add mystery to your image. Few people can resist a person with smoky eyes. Here is how to achieve the look.

1Consider your eye color when choosing what shade of dark eye makeup to apply. People with dark brown eyes can go as dark as they want. However, if you have lighter brown or blue or green eyes, you need to choose a lighter shade due to the contrast it causes on your face. Many makeup experts argue against using dark colors on your brow bone, unless you're about to do a modeling shoot. But, if this is the look you're seeking, you can apply the dark colors as high above your eye as the brow bone.
2Choose your makeup based on the tone of your skin. If you have darker skin, you can use darker makeup because the darker makeup complements your skin tone. However, if you are a lighter skinned person, a very dark makeup can give your eyes a sunken look, almost Halloween-like.
3Think about your age and what image you want to project when thinking about dark eye makeup. While this style may make you feel 16 again, if you have to work in a business suit, it might clash with your style. Also, choose dark colors that complement the color of your eyes. If you have blue eyes, try dark shades of blue. If you have hazel eyes, select dark hazel colors.
4Begin by applying the color of eye shadow that you have chosen to your eyelids. Apply the eye shadow evenly over your eyes. You may blend colors of eye shadow if you like to create nice effects of darker eye makeup. Blend eye shadow by starting with the lightest of your dark colors, then adding a layer of the next darkest color and finishing with the darkest color. You may create a rainbow effect with the eye shadow using this method.
5Apply eyeliner last. This will give your new dark eye makeup a frame to sit within. You can apply dark makeup without eye liner. However, it may look amateurish and accidental without a finishing element such as eyeliner.
